What Is the Personality System?

In Bizarre Lineage, every Stand has a Personality — a passive trait that modifies your combat stats and abilities. Personalities are randomly assigned when you obtain a Stand from the Stand Arrow. You can only equip one Personality at a time, and you can reroll it using a Stand Personality Essence item.

Personality can make or break a build. The difference between a Common personality and a Mythical one is massive — we are talking 10% cooldown reduction versus 5% energy recovery. Knowing which personality to keep (and which to reroll) saves you grinding time and makes you significantly stronger in both PvP and PvE.

Complete Personality List by Rarity

Mythical Personalities (Best in Game)

| Personality | Effect | Best For | |------------|--------|----------| | Elegant | Stand cooldown -10%, brief speed boost on attacks, damage scales slightly with move speed | Universal — works on every Stand. The best all-around personality. | | Feral | Damage +10%, Defense -10% | Glass cannon builds. Excellent for PvE farming where you kill before getting hit. | | Transcendent | Damage +7%, Energy Recovery +7%, All Defense +7% | The balanced Mythical. Best for players who want survivability and offense. |

Verdict: If you roll Elegant or Transcendent, keep it immediately. These are endgame-quality personalities that never need replacing.

Legendary Personalities

| Personality | Effect | Best For | |------------|--------|----------| | Methodical | Perfect block restores 20% energy + brief speed boost | Defensive/counter playstyle. Incredible with Star Platinum and Crazy Diamond. | | Dominant | +25% damage to enemies who have not attacked you yet | Opener builds. First-strike PvP — hit hard before they react. | | Cursed | Damage +4%, Energy Recovery +4%, All Defense +4% | Budget Transcendent. Solid all-around if you cannot get Mythical. | | Rhythmic | Energy Recovery +35% | Spam-ability builds. Lets you use Stand abilities almost off cooldown. | | Artistic | Guard break applies "Fragile" for 5 seconds (+20% damage taken) | Combo-heavy Stands like King Crimson and The World. | | Suffocating | Damage-over-time effects +50% | Purple Haze's best personality. Turns its poison from strong to devastating. |

Verdict: All Legendary personalities are worth keeping for the right Stand. Suffocating on Purple Haze is arguably the single strongest personality+Stand combination in the game.

Rare Personalities

| Personality | Effect | Best For | |------------|--------|----------| | Determined | +4% damage when HP >70% | Safe playstyle where you avoid taking hits | | Compassionate | Healing effects +25% | Support/healer builds (Crazy Diamond, Golden Experience) | | Furious | +10% damage when HP <30% | Clutch/comeback builds. High risk, high reward. | | Slugger | Guard break skill damage +10% | Stands with strong guard break moves | | Fearful | +20% defense for 2 seconds after being guard broken | Defensive safety net | | Durable | -100% damage from status effects | Hard counter to Purple Haze and DoT-heavy opponents |

Verdict: Rare personalities are serviceable early game. Durable is a niche but powerful anti-meta pick against Suffocating Purple Haze users.

Uncommon Personalities

| Personality | Effect | Best For | |------------|--------|----------| | Curious | Dodge value +20% | Evasion builds | | Astute | Chip damage through block +10% | Pressure builds | | Predictive | Counter skill damage +10% | Counter-focused playstyle | | Kind | Healing effects +10% | Budget Compassionate |

Common Personalities

| Personality | Effect | Best For | |------------|--------|----------| | Erratic | Dodge restores 5% energy | Dodge-spam builds | | Energetic | Energy Recovery +10% | Budget Rhythmic | | Cowardly | Slow effects reduced at low HP | Escape/kiting | | Happy | HP Recovery +5% | Passive sustain | | Firm | Gain energy while blocking | Turtle builds | | Arrogant | +5% damage at full HP | Only useful if you never get hit |

Verdict: Reroll Common personalities as soon as you can afford a Stand Personality Essence. The stat bonuses are too small to matter in mid-to-late game content.

Best Personality for Each Playstyle

STR-Focused (Raw Damage)

Best: Feral (Mythical) > Dominant (Legendary) > Determined (Rare)

Feral's +10% damage with -10% defense is perfect for STR builds because you are already investing in killing things fast. Pair with The World or King Crimson for devastating combos.

SPD-Focused (Hit and Run)

Best: Elegant (Mythical) > Rhythmic (Legendary) > Curious (Uncommon)

Speed builds benefit most from Elegant's cooldown reduction and speed scaling. Made in Heaven with Elegant is the fastest, most oppressive PvP combination in the game — you are too fast to hit and your abilities come back 10% sooner.

Tank / Defense-Focused

Best: Transcendent (Mythical) > Methodical (Legendary) > Fearful (Rare)

Transcendent gives you offense without sacrificing defense. Methodical is even better if you have mastered perfect blocking — 20% energy on every perfect block lets you counter-attack constantly.

DoT / Poison Builds

Best: Suffocating (Legendary) > Feral (Mythical) > Furious (Rare)

Suffocating is non-negotiable on Purple Haze. A +50% boost to all damage-over-time effects turns Purple Haze's poison cloud into a kill zone. This is the strongest single personality+Stand synergy in Bizarre Lineage.

Support / Healer

Best: Compassionate (Rare) > Kind (Uncommon) > Transcendent (Mythical)

If you are running Crazy Diamond or Golden Experience in a team context, Compassionate's +25% healing is more valuable than raw damage increases.

How Personality Affects Combat

Personalities are passive — they activate automatically based on their trigger conditions. You do not need to press any buttons. Here is how they interact with combat:

  1. Flat damage bonuses (Feral, Determined, Dominant) apply to all damage including Stand abilities.
  2. Conditional bonuses (Furious at <30% HP, Determined at >70% HP) activate and deactivate in real-time as your HP changes.
  3. Energy bonuses (Rhythmic, Erratic, Firm) affect your ability to use Stand skills more frequently. Higher energy recovery = more abilities per fight.
  4. Defensive bonuses (Fearful, Durable) trigger on specific events (being guard broken, taking DoT damage).

PvP vs PvE Personality Differences

  • PvP: Elegant, Dominant, and Artistic dominate. Speed, first-strike damage, and combo extension matter most.
  • PvE farming: Feral and Suffocating are king. Kill speed is everything; defense barely matters against predictable AI.
  • Raid Bosses: Transcendent and Methodical. Sustained damage and survivability over long fights.

How to Reroll Personality

  1. Obtain a Stand Personality Essence (dropped from Raid Bosses or purchased from certain NPCs).
  2. Use the Essence on your Stand.
  3. Your current personality is replaced with a random new one.
  4. The new personality's rarity is also random — you can go from Mythical to Common. Rerolling is a gamble.

Tip: Never reroll a Mythical personality unless you are specifically chasing Elegant for a speed build and got Feral on a Tank Stand. In almost every other case, any Mythical is worth keeping.
